There is a cosy cafe as well. With 180 seats, The Academy is the largest dedicated art house cinema in Christchurch. Since 1978, it's been the leader in art house films in the city. The Academy Classic The country's first dedicated digital cinema. This is a uniquely small club theater. Having just 11 seats, Classic specializes in showing films which may not attract large audiences such as documentaries. Metro Gold Cinema The original Metro Cinema was closed in 1996.
