The Electric Cinema
In 1922, it was renamed 'Select Cinema,' showing a program of silent movies. However, on November 14, 1931, theater has been closed. In 1937, architect Cecil Filmore added a gallery upstairs and theater became the 399-seat 'Tatler News Theatre.' In the 1950s, with television becoming popular, the theater became 'The Jacey Cartoon Theatre.' In the 1960s, it became 'The Jacey Film Theatre,' mainly showing a program of art house movies. In 1980, 2nd screen was added upstairs and theater became 'The Classic.' In 1993, theater was renamed back to 'The Electric' and became a two screen repertory venue. In 2004, Thomas Lawes Media Ltd has bought the theater to make it a local filmmaking community center. After a 0.25m pound renovation ($0.399m), the theater reopened on December 17, 2004. The building was restored to its original 1930s art deco look. The theater's bar/cafe offers a good range of drinks, antipasti, cakes, handmade ice creams and chocolates, coffee and tea. . . . .
