CJ CGV Headquartered in Seoul, CJ CGV (or simply CGV) is the South Korea's largest multiplex cinema chain. It is a subsidiary of South Korea's CJ Group and was established in 1996 as a joint venture formed by CJ Entertainment, Village Roadshow, an Australian-based global multiplex theater chain, and Golden Harvest, Hong Kong's leading film company. Now, CJ Entertainment – the largest South Korean entertainment company – is the only owner of CJ CGV. Village Roadshow and Golden Harvest have pulled out of business. CGV opened its first multiplex cinema in South Korea in April 1998. In December 2004, CJ CGV went public and is currently valued more than $400M. Since the opening of its first movie theater in Seoul, CGV has expanded and currently has over 450 screens nationwide. In late 2006, CGV opened its first overseas branch in Shanghai, China. CGV now has around 30% of the market share in South Korea. Other activities include providing of food retail, restaurant, real estate and leasing services, health club, leisure club, issuing of gift cards and selling and exporting of theater equipment. . . . .
