Arclight Films Arclight Films is an Australian motion picture production and distribution company, founded by Victor Syrmis and Gary Hamilton. Arclight Films is an exciting label devoted to showcasing the best in action, comedy and drama from around the world. Films successfully released by Arclight Films include “Infamous,” which chronicles the sensational story behind the creation of Truman Capote's iconoclastic opus “In Cold Blood,” starring Sandra Bullock and Gwyneth Paltrow; “Bobby,” the fictional recounting of the events on the eve of Bobby Kennedy's presidential nomination, written and directed by Emilio Estevez and starring Anthony Hopkins, Sharon Stone, Demi Moore and Elijah Wood; the Albert Brooks' comedy, “Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World,” which recently opened the Dubai Film Festival; “Mini's First Time,” a dark comedy starring Alec Baldwin, Nikki Reed, Luke Wilson and Carrie-Anne Moss, produced by Kevin Spacey; the Sundance selection “Come Early Morning,” starring Ashley Judd; and the teen comedy “Material Girls,” starring Hilary and Haley Duff. Since its inception, Arclight Films has sold over sixty motion pictures, including the romantic war drama “Head in the Clouds,” starring Academy Award winner Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz; “The Merchant of Venice,” starring Academy Award winners Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons; the drama “Lord of War,” a film based on the true-life story of one of America's most notorious arms dealers, starring Nicolas Cage, Ethan Hawke and Jared Leto; and the espionage drama “A Different Loyalty,” starring Sharon Stone and Rupert Everett. Arclight Films prides itself in forming strategic alliances with numerous international production companies and producers in order to establish long-term distribution arrangements. The company currently has a deal with Bold Films, the production company responsible for films such as “Bobby,” “Mini's First Time,” “Slingshot” and “Come Early Morning,” which has been invited to screen at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Other companies that hold similar relationships include Relativity Pictures, Ambush Entertainment (“Oh in Ohio” and “Unearthed”) and ApolloScreen Filmproduktion (“Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical,” “Elvis”). In 2007, Arclight Films launched a theatrical production branch for the Australian market, with the goal of releasing six to ten features per year. The highly anticipated feature “Romulus, My Father,” starring Eric Bana, is scheduled to commence principal photography in May 2008. Following that will be the thriller “Storm Warning” from director Jamie Blanks (“Urban Legends”) which will be part of the Darclight label. In addition to the Arclight Films label, the company also incorporated the following labels: Darclight Films, which was formed in 2004 as the genre division of Arclight Films; Easternlight Films, which is devoted to showcasing the best in Asian cinema; and Arclight Television. Arclight Films has a recognized presence at all major motion picture and television festivals and markets including Cannes, AFM, Berlin, Hong Kong Filmart, The Sundance Film Festival, The Toronto Film Festival, UK Film Focus as well as MIPCOM and MIP-TV. Darclight Films Darclight Films was formed in 2004 as the genre division of Arclight Films. Motion pictures under Darclight Films include “Wolf Creek,” a film sold to The Weinstein Company; “Perfect Creature,” the stylish retelling of the vampire myth which is scheduled to be released domestically by Fox; “SPL,” a martial arts film that was also recently purchased by The Weinstein Company and was invited to compete at the Toronto Film Festival; and “Snoop Dogg's Hood of Horror,” starring Snoop Dogg, Jason Alexander and Billy Dee Williams. Darclight Films also sells many high-profile martial arts films from Hong Kong including the next film in the classic Police Story franchise, “New Police Story,” starring Jackie Chan, a film that will be released domestically by Lionsgate and Miramax. Easternlight Easternlight is an exciting new label, launched in 2006 as part of Arclight Films, devoted to showcasing the best in Asian cinema. Easternlight presents passionate, vibrant, bold, unpredictable and provocative motion pictures from Asian countries. With films from some of the world's most important contemporary filmmakers, to works by new artists who are yet to make their debut on the world stage, Easternlight is a label which will encompass all films regardless of genre or form. Easternlight is devoted to production, sales, marketing and distribution of films from all regions of Asia. Among Easternlight projects are “The Road,” acclaimed by critics after its Berlin debut at Berlinale 2008; Ananda Anand's “Return to Rajapur,” which was recently chosen for the prestigous Tribeca Film Festival in New York; the sumptuous and intimate epic “Jasmine Women,” starring two of Chinese cinema's hottest stars, Golden Globe® nominee Zhang Zhiyi (“Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon,” “House of Flying Daggers”) and Joan Chen (“The Last Emperor,” “Twin Peaks”); and hit Chinese film “Waiting Alone,” written and directed by Chinese-American writer/director Dayyan Eng.
