Swedish Film Institute

Swedish Film Institute (Svenska Filminstitutet) is a foundation established in 1963 by the Swedish government to finance, develop, support and promote Swedish film production worldwide.

SFI is run by a board of nine members appointed by the government for a three year term which may be extended. The board appoints the CEO.

SFI is divided into five departments: Production & Development, Audience & Promotion, Film Heritage, Administration and Communications.

Situated in Filmhuset (Film House) in Stockholm, Swedish Film Institute library is the biggest library in the country dedicated to film industry.

SFI has one of the world's oldest film archives that comprises more than 21,000 Swedish and foreign titles. SFI's archive works together with the Swedish National Archive of Recorded Sound and Moving Images to collect and restore Sweden's film heritage.

SFI's Film House is home to two state-of-the-art cinemas:

Cinema Victor - Named after Swedish director, screenwriter and actor Victor Sj?str?m (1879-1960). 364 seats.

Cinema Mauritz - Named after Swedish director and screenwriter Mauritz Stiller (1883-1928). 133 seats.
