Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT)
TRT's predecessor, Turkish Radio was one of 23 founding broadcasting organizations of the European Broadcasting Union in 1950. The original company started radio test broadcasts in 1926, with a studio built in Istanbul in 1927 and a studio in Ankara following in 1928. TRT World Service broadcasts in Albanian, Arabic, Azeri, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Dari, English, Farsi, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Macedonian, Pashtu, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Tatarian, Turkmenian, Urdu, Uzbek and Uyghur. TRT TV CHANNELS TRT 1 (launched January 1968) - Entertainment channel with a broad schedule featuring Turkish and foreign shows and films, pop music, sport, news and special events such as the Eurovision Song Contest. TRT 2 (launched September 1986) - economics, politics, sports, weather, culture, arts, documentaries and world cinema. TRT 3 (launched October 1989) - Sports, as well as live coverage of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. TRT 4 (launched July 1990) - Turkish folk and classical music programming. TRT Çocuk (launched November 2008) - Entertainment and educational programs for children. TRT 6 (launched January 2009) - Kurdish language programming. TRT International (launched Februrary 1990) - News and entertainment channel for Turkish international community. TRT Türk (launched April 1992) - International channel for Turkic countries. Founded
in 1964, Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (Türkiye Radyo
ve Televizyon Kurumu), or simply TRT, is the national public broadcaster
in Turkey and one of the largest TV and radio broadcasters in the
world. Headquartered in Ankara, TRT broadcasts around the world,
especially in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. TRT is the largest
motion picture production and distribution company in the country
as well.
