Screen East Screen East is a film agency for the East of England dedicated to developing, supporting and promoting the film and media industries in the region. Screen East was founded by the UK Film Council and the Regional Investment Fund for England (RIFE) and is controlled by the government. Screen East promotes the East of England as a location for film and television production; develops the talent, skills and innovation of the region's new and existing workforce; attracts inward investment by marketing the locations, facilities, skills and expertise available in the region; invests in the development of film, television and digital media businesses based in the East of England. The East of England is one of official regions of the country with a population of around 5.4 million people. East of England is home to country's oldest recorded town - Colchester, alongside the historic cities Cambridge, Norwich, Peterborough and St. Albans. Screen East serves the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, as well as the unitary areas of Luton, Peterborough, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock. Peterborough, Luton and Southend-on-Sea are the region's most populous urban areas. The East of England is the 2nd most filmed region in the UK after London. It has the 3rd highest volume of programs made in the country, with Norwich the 4th most significant regional production center in the UK. The region is home to half of the UK's studios and production facilities, including Leavesden Film Studios, Millennium Studios, Hillside Studios and Anglia Television Studios, that attract around 200 million pounds (around $325m) in production annually. Cambridge Film Festival and Norwich International Animation Festival are important events of the region's film industry.
