Area: 8,876 sq mi (22,990 sq km), population: 3.7 million. Mountains cover around quarter of the Tuscany territory. Florence is the region's main city. Tuscany was a birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. It was a home of some of the most influential people in the Italian arts and science, such as Amerigo Vespucci, Botticelli, Dante, Galileo Galilei, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Petrarch and Puccini. There are lots of palaces, castles, museums and galleries in Tuscany including Uffizi and Pitti Palace. Tuscany is a popular tourist destination attracting huge number of tourists each year.
